ABOUT THE JUNGLE POET


Mutiu Olawuyi, The Jungle Poet (JP), is an international award winning poet (International Who's Who in Poetry Awardee 2012 & World Empowered Poet, 2013, Canada). He studied English/Education at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Nigeria. He once worked as the Director of Studies and Webmaster at Mustadol Computer Academy, Ikirun Osun State, and taught English and Literature-in-English at Aforc International School, Achi Enugu State and the Foundation Model College, Ikirun Osun State - where he later became Head of the Department of Arts. He froze his career in Nigeria in March, 2010 and moved to The Gambia, where he was appointed as English and Literature-in-English teacher at the West African International School, Bakau New Town. 

JP was once an Editor of the NYSC Orientation Broadcasting Service Augwu Camp Enugu Nigeria, Flag Cadet of the Road Safety Club, Achi Unit Enugu, the Managing Editor of the Meiden Magazine (The Sophists) of the National University Education Students Association, Unilorin Chapter, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and News Editor of the Unilorin Campus Crescent Press, Director of Publicity and later Director General of the Association of Arts and Social Sciences Education Students, Unilorin, Secretary General of the Federation of Ikirun Students Union, Unilorin Chapter, and the Financial Secretary of the Corpers Welfare Association, Achi, Enugu Nigeria. And as a young writer, he has twice participated in the annual International Essay Contest organised by World Bank, and Goip Peace Foundation in Japan - in collaboration with UNESCO, and served as a resource person in some Education and ICT workshops and seminars, et cetera.

He is a member of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), Gambia Teachers Union, Writers Association of The Gambia, Writer's Digest Community, Muse India Forum and a volunteer in the 100 Thousand Poets for Change; as well as a member of the Board of Directors, Poems Without Borders (PWB)

He initiated and coordinates the POETRY ZONE on Facebook -where poets from corners of the world post their poems for criticism and critique their fellow poets. He published his collections of poetry titled: AMERICAN LITERARY LEGENDS AND OTHER POEMS  (2010), THOUGHTS FROM THE JUNGLE (2012), and 9/11 POETRY (2012). He is the Managing Editor of  Anthology of  the Muse for Women (2012) and Acerbic Anthology - Protest against Rape and Gender Violence (2013). His poems have appeared in journals, magazines, e-zines and e-journals like Copperfeild Review in USA, Muse India, Quincouplet Anthology, Liebamour: The Psychedelic Literary Journal (Issue 3), Carty Poetry Journal, Ireland, Word Ever Lasting Anthology, Poetry Rivals England, et cetera. And he is currently working on the publication of a new collection. Finally, Mutiu has some of his poems translated to Malayalam, Telugu, Greek, Esperanto and Hungarian.
